In her second solo show at the Fern Street Gallery, Resident Artist Kristal del Villar explores the beauty of the local landscape in a series of paintings inspired by the transient afternoon light across Minnamurra River and Rose Valley.
An Impressionist at heart, Kristal’s focus is on the delightful interplay of light and colour. She is drawn to the transcendence of nature, expressing these vistas with bold compositions, saturated hues and painterly mark making.
Do you ever look at the landscape only to be completely overtaken by the awe and feeling of it? To stand in the presence of vastness; of sweeping fields, of billowing clouds, of diffused glowing light, of undulating hillsides; is to be overwhelmed by the beauty of nature and a sense of the sublime. There is something romantic about trying to capture the essence of your own experience of the natural world and recreating this emotion and memory of time and place, onto the canvas.
This vibrant new series of Kristal’s Colourscapes is a tribute to nature’s incredible palette. Not just what is seen or captured as the last light fades, but the enchanting effect the experience of atmosphere can awaken within us.
