Colour My World

My visual world is full of wonder and surprise, and to me, colour is the key attraction. Each image in this exhibition represents a subject where colour has sparked my imagination and led me to marvel at the beauty of the natural world. Perhaps it’s the vibrancy and beauty of a single flower. Perhaps it’s the richness and majesty of an expansive Australian landscape. Often it’s the power of a memory imprinted into my imagination that attracts me to paint and interpret and share what I feel.

After a lengthy career in performing arts and education, I found myself drawn to visual arts. At first, I thought it would be a hobby, an enjoyable way of utilising the newfound freedom that came with retirement. But very quickly art became a passion – a new and challenging way of expressing myself, and reacting to the beauty of the natural world.

When I look back at my art over the years, I realise that my involvement in music, dance, and drama has very much influenced the way that I paint. I like to experiment and lose myself in the moment. I love to apply paint freely and rhythmically, in an effort to capture the spirit of time and place, the essence of energy, the power of light and colour – to translate in my way the beauty and magic that surrounds us.

Open Tuesday – Sunday 10am-4pm
